Have a case of the Mondays? If you're dreading coming into the office after the weekend, former U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink has a simple approach: attack the day.
Go on the offensive, he says. If you're feeling anxious, "just reverse that mindset," says Willink, the co-author of the book "The Dichotomy of Leadership."
To get started, give yourself an edge. Be one of the first to get into the office, he tells CNBC Make It. Give yourself that head start on your tasks and your week.
Secondly, don't be afraid to get ambitious. Identify the top people in your office or your team and make a mental game out of how you can be even better than them. Get a "little competition going" in your own brain, he suggests.
That strategy helped him while in the service to finish even the most tedious task, like clearing shells from the firing range. The approach can help you set goals large and small that will propel you forward, he says.
Instead of thinking that Monday is going to attack you, he says, think "I'm going to attack Monday."
