Job openings surge to new high of 7.6 million as employers struggle to fill positions

Job vacancies jumped to a fresh high of 7.6 million in January as employers continue to seek qualified applicants to fill positions, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey measures the level of employment vacancies as well as how many workers left their jobs and the reasons for the separations. The January survey was expected to show 7.31 million openings against December's 7.34 million.
