Russia says the death toll in the Crimea college blast rises to 13

Russia's Investigative Committee said on Wednesday that the death toll from a blast at a school in the Crimean port of Kerch had risen to 13, with about 50 more injured and most of them teenagers.

The blast was caused by a bomb packed with metal objects that was set off in the building's cafeteria, investigators said earlier. A top Russian official in Crimea told the Associated Press the attacker at a Crimean college was a student who has killed himself.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that four military planes were ready to evacuate casualties of a blast for medical treatment, the Interfax news agency reported.

Shoigu was also cited as saying that space in military hospitals in Crimea was available for the victims.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
